Linda

Today, Glowing Color features Linda.

Linda is a Human Resources Analyst from California, and her favorite thing to do is travel and take pictures.

Linda’s Color Interview:

What color do you wear the most? I wear mostly black and navy

What color do you wear the least? I hardly ever wear pastels

In what color do you feel sexy and/or beautiful? I think I look my best in black and darker pinks

In what color do you receive the most compliments? Recently, someone told me I look good in dark grey. But, I’ve also been told that I look very pale in the same color 🙂

Linda is a Winter. There was an obvious difference with Linda between the cooler and warmer colors, as the warmer colors washed her out. The colors of Summer showed some promise, but were still ultimately too light. When I saw Linda in the strong blue and green jewel tones of Winter, I saw her face glow. I looked at her first instead of her shirt colors. This is always an easy giveaway with the bolder Winter tones because it is easy to want to look at the colors of the outfit first. If the eye is drawn to your face first, you have a winner.

Kit

Today, Glowing Color features Kit. Kit writes,

I just found your blog this morning and I am totally addicted already.  I have been on a quest for over a year hoping to identify my color.  I have “tried on” every season and still feel lost.  I’m getting older (will be 60 next month!) and I just can no longer see myself or identify what I look good in.  I need help!

I would be most interested in learning from you the services you offer and their rates.

Look forward to hearing from you.

Your new reader and fan,
Kit
About Kit: “I live in Los Angeles and have been married for over 20 years.  I love to draw and paint, read cookbooks and healthy living blogs.  I am mostly vegetarian but do enjoy occasional seafood and chicken.  My husband retires in less than three years and we will be moving from Los Angeles to a much smaller market.  We are both very excited about that and right now feel a little like we are living in limbo because we are ready for the next chapter in our lives but it isn’t quite time.”

Kit’s Color Interview:

What color(s) do you wear the most? My default colors are blue, gray, and white.

What color(s) do you wear the least? Orange.

In what color(s) do you feel sexy and/or beautiful? Navy or white.

In what color(s) do you receive compliments? Blue.

Keep in mind Kit’s natural hair color is a medium-dark brown. Kit in cooler colors:

Kit in warmer colors:

Kit - camelKit - warm brownKit - cool brownKit - hot yellowKit - pale peachKit - coralKit - navyKit - soft army green

Kit is a Winter. Kit has been favoring cooler colors in her wardrobe, particularly blue. She instinctively gravitated toward the colors in her season! She wrote about her hair color feeling off, which makes sense because it is a warm brown with golden highlights. She definitely needs to go cooler with her hair, which will also set off her gorgeous eyes.

Stephanie

Today Glowing Color features Stephanie. Stephanie writes,

Hello!

I am 38, born and raised in Olympia, WA. I was away for 5 years on active duty with the air force in Virginia, yet came back home to ply. I have 2 children, 11 and 2 both boys that keep me pretty busy, yet i still stay active with running and just started participating in the Spartan races with my oldest. I am a Judicial Educator with the state and a Knowledge Operations Manger with the Air Force. I came across your site today and am impressed with your analyses. What are your rates for consultation?

Here is Stephanie’s Color Interview:

What color(s) do you wear the most? black, grey, and blue

What color(s) do you wear the least? red and orange

In what color(s) do you feel sexy and/or beautiful? black

In what color(s) do you receive compliments? Can’t say about the color I receive compliments in…I mostly hear that I look tired.

Let’s look at Stephanie in cooler colors first.

Great photos, Stephanie! There’s a correlation between the fact that Stephanie hears she looks tired often, and her most common colors of black, grey, and blue. That’s because Stephanie is an Autumn. She needs to go deep into the boldest, most vibrant autumn hues and shy away from the duller tones and pastels.

Susan

Today, Glowing Color features Susan. Susan is from the NYC area where she works as an actor and model. She enjoys classic film, art, design, and museums. 4 of her friends actually gifted her this color analysis! Susan writes,

I am so thrilled to have this done, as seasonal color analysis has been torturing me. I’m so very grateful for my friends for doing this. they rock.
First, I was termed a true summer (which quite honestly, either that or another summer may be accurate) by Christine Scamman, who is awesome. She analyzed every striation of color in my eyeball, and said it was textbook true summer. (I blew up my eyeball photo and pixilated it, and noticed every single color of it is in the true summer fan, if that means anything…dunno….)
I had no reason to doubt Christine, until the true summer group…told me otherwise.

 pls advise,
Susan

I want to address the issue about eye color, because I’ve had several e-mails that mention this: I do not use eye color alone to determine someone’s season. If that was all that was needed to determine someone’s season, what about all the women of color who have dark brown eyes? Are they all the same season? No (though some websites would have you believe this)! So while eye color can be a helpful factor at times, it is by no means the main way of determining season. It comes from your skin and all the unique glowing colors and tones within!

Here is Susan’s Color Interview:

What color(s) do you wear the most? pink and blue

What color(s) do you wear the least? yellow

In what color(s) do you feel sexy and/or beautiful? navy or deep blue

In what color(s) do you receive compliments? pink

When we look at Susan’s photos, keep in mind that her natural hair color is self-described as a dark, ashy brown…mushroom brown instead of a true brunette. Let’s look at cooler colors first.

Now let’s look at Susan in warmer colors.

yellownavy

Although we don’t have much to go by in the warmer colors, it’s fairly obvious to me that Susan is not warm. She is definitely cool. However, Susan is not a Summer. Susan is a Winter. The cool pastel colors of Summer wash her out; they make her look too pale. Imagine her naturally darker hair color, and you’ll see that Susan should stick with the vibrant tones of Winter. Her eyes even pop more in Winter colors versus Summer.

Julie

Today Glowing Color features Julie. Julie writes,

Hello,I’m a French girl who’d liked to receive your advices to know which colors look best on me cause I can decide. Am I Spring? Winter? Which hair color is for me? and so on…

I’m Julie, thirty years old soon and French!
No, I’m not living in Paris but in Strasbourg in the East of France, on the border of Germany.

My passions are creative arts and dance (modern jazz).

I work in a school  but I’m not a teacher, it’s a temporary job. In fact, I’d like to get a job more creative in the field of art.
I love to create, painting, photographing and sewing. My latest creations was plushes (or do say “soft toys”?).
You can see some of them here:

http://destasdames.canalblog.com/

Be sure to check out Julie’s plush toys; they are cute! Let’s now get into her Color Interview.

What color(s) do you wear the most?

Greys (but not too dark grey like charcoal), black, navy blue, blue jean and sometimes purple but not very often. I used to wear a little bit of kaki when my hair were dyed in ginger.
I like discrete, easy to wear colours but I’m currently trying to put some colours in my closet with purple, red and blue- green.

In fact I recently start to like this blue-green color, I think you say “deep teal” in English but I’m not sure in French we says “bleu canard”), when my hairs were dried in ginger it was even better looking.
This colour seems to bring out my eyes (that’s what people said to me), and when I’m wearing this colour they tell me that it changes my eye colour which seems to be the exact same colour .
Strange isn’t it?

What color(s) do you wear the least?

– Pink.

– Beige. I look like a ghost and disappear with this colour.

– Brown. I used to wear it when I was light blond but now I think it was a mistake. I don’t like to wear it anymore, it doesn’t seem to fit me (and my man hates when I wear brown he says it’s not a color for me, well in fact, he begs me to take off the clothes in that color but maybe he isn’t a big fan of this colour at all. …).

Actually,  I’m not “attire” by which seems to be “autumn colors” in general even when I was a ginger it doesn’t work with me and I must confess that I secretly hope to not be “an autumnal girl” ha ha.

Anh I’m not a big fan of pastels colors, I think it’s because it doen’t look so great on my light and white skin….

In what color(s) do you feel sexy and/or beautiful?

Red without a hesitation! With blond or ginger hair I really like it!

In what color(s) do you receive compliments?

“bleu canard”in French  (deep teal?)

Keep in mind Julie’s natural hair color is dark blonde. The ginger-red is a dye in these photos, though you can see some of her natural color at the top as opposed to the ends of her hair. Let’s take a look at Julie in cooler colors first.

Right off the bat, I can eliminate Summer for Julie. That leaves Winter, Spring, and Autumn. Now let’s look at Julie in warmer colors.

First, let me say that I think it is nearly impossible for Julie to look bad in anything. She is beautiful! With that out of the way, Julie had two telling photos that showed me her season. Those two are her in the yellow and orange. So Julie is the one season she wanted to avoid. Julie is an Autumn. Now, commonly, those who hate the season in which they belong are not wearing their strongest colors within the season. Just because you are an Autumn does not mean that ALL Autumn colors are going to have you at your glowiest (do you like that made-up word?). I will specify which Autumn colors Julie should seek out and I think will make her a happy camper. For example, brown is an entire world. There are so many shades and variations. Some browns will work for Julie, and some browns will not. As for Julie being attracted to the teal/peacock blue. This is what I call a “fun” color. You may love it because it matches your eyes, or it is your favorite color, or whatever other reason. You have your “glow” colors and your “fun” colors. I am here to advise you on your “glow” colors. I will not tell anyone they can’t wear their “fun” colors, but that is their own decision. Personally, you can pry purple clothes from my cold, dead hands because it is not in my season but I will wear it anyway because I love it!

Now I’m sure you’re thinking, “Julie looked pretty in some of the cooler colors!” Yes, but you’ll see they have nothing on her in warmer colors. Let’s do some direct comparisons:

Leah

Today, Glowing Color features Leah.

I left my finance career behind a couple years ago to stay home with our daughter, Molly, which is the best decision I ever made. Besides  spending time with my family and friends, I love cooking, running, reading and traveling.

Leah’s Q&A:

What color(s) do you wear the most? All shades of blue, pale pink, black, white & gray

What color(s) do you wear the least? Yellow, orange, purple, brown

In what color(s) do you feel sexy? I feel sexy in black.

In what color(s) do you receive compliments? Mostly in light blue because it draws people’s attention to my eyes.

Indeed, you’ll see that Leah does have stunningly beautiful eyes. Let’s take a look at Leah in cool colors first.

white turquoisesky blue

BTW, clients, this is how I love for you to submit photos (if possible). Multiple colors taken against the same backdrop, somewhat neutral. It makes it easier to do your analysis, and makes it easier for you to see differences!

Now, since Leah has a lot of photos in cool colors, I separated them a bit into the deeper, darker cool colors, bright pinks and purples, and the coolest, the lighter blues and white. Leah looks very nice in all of these colors, but she is really standing out in the bottom row of photos. Let’s look at Leah in warm colors.

navypeach

As you can see, Leah has a definite preference for cooler colors in her wardrobe! It seems that is a wise instinctual choice, as the navy does not look bad, but is not doing anything special for Leah. She looks washed out in this peachy-melon color. Any guesses on her season?

Leah is a Summer. Her answer regarding the colors she wears most was a good hint. Leah is already gravitating toward her more flattering colors. The colors she wears the least also tell a tale; as they are autumn colors (including purple, depending on the shade/tone). She gets complimented most in light blue and that is a beautiful color on her; a classic Summer color. This would be even more apparent if you could see Leah’s natural hair color, which is an ashy light brown. The auburn color she is wearing in these photos do her coloring and eyes no justice. I have suggested some other hair colors to her in her Color Shopping List. Pay attention to Leah’s cool photos. The black, fuchsia, and red are cool, but too dark for her, a calling card of Summers. The orchid and pink are okay; I feel she would look better in those colors if she had her natural hair color here. But the white and sky blue photos are wear Leah really glows. If she had her natural lighter hair color here, the entire effect would be amazing. I hope Leah keeps us updated, especially if she tries out a new hair color.
