Metropolitan Gala 2015

Between my two young daughters (infant and toddler) and my clients, I have been too busy to write my posts on award shows and other subjects. I found this in my drafts from May…hahaha! Enjoy. I’m 1,000 percent sure there were other women I wanted to include in this post, but I’m going with what I have for now. I hope to get back to regular blogging sometime soon.

The Metropolitan Gala is always fun to watch to see who will go the extra mile in fashion just because they can. Fashion opinions on the outfits featured at the Gala range from whether the person was on theme or off theme, whether the outfit is “in”, whether the outfit is impressive, and whether the outfit is considered ugly or too much (even if the person is on theme). I for one, love seeing who is on theme or not, but invariably I always look at the colors they choose and if they are right or wrong based on their season. Here are my favorite looks from the Gala, based solely on COLOR.

Jeana

Today, Glowing Color features Jeana.

About Jeana: “I live in a town next to Orlando, FL. I work for a large commercial insurance company. For fun, I work on my family history-genealogy. I have a son 22 and a daughter 23-both working and in college. I’ve been married 25 years. We have 3 dogs. I have one sister. I lost both my parents last year-mom in June and Dad in November. It’s been a hard couple of years worrying and trying to help them. I think that’s why I am ready for this “upgrade”. I want to be the best me I can be. It seems silly not to know what colors flatter you. If I am going to buy a new shirt and I can get it in a few different colors, I’d like to get the one that is most flattering—not the color that I just like.”

Jeana’s Color Interview:

What color(s) do you wear the most? bottoms-black, navy, grey; tops-teal, purple, pink, maroon, light grey, white

What color(s) do you wear the least? never wear ivory, yellow; wear very little black near my face either

In what color(s) do you feel sexy and/or beautiful? purples, teals

In what color(s) do you receive compliments? lavender, teal, red

Jeana in cooler colors:

Jeana in warmer colors:

Jeana is a Winter. She should definitely avoid pastels, but the vibrant jewel tones really work for her.

Courtney

Today, Glowing Color features Courtney.

About Courtney: “I recently found your website and am very much enjoying it!  I’ve always enjoyed fashion, but I want to learn to select clothes that really flatter me and my coloring.  Also, as someone who used to be a natural blond and now have dull brown hair, I’m trying to figure out the best hair color for my skin tone. I live near San Francisco, and work in San Francisco.  I’m 32, an attorney specializing in tax law and work with nonprofit organizations and charitable tax planning.  For fun I read, travel, dance, take long walks.”

Courtney’s Color Interview:

What color(s) do you wear the most? Black and white — clean, classic, and everything in my closet mixes and matches.

What color(s) do you wear the least? Blue (all shades of blue I wear rarely).

In what color(s) do you feel sexy and/or beautiful? Sexy – red. Beautiful – coral or peach.

In what color(s) do you receive compliments? Coral or bright pink.

Courtney in cooler colors:

black gray red hot pink magenta blue  green

Courtney in warmer colors:

ivory yellowpeach orange olive green

Courtney is a Spring. The cooler colors just sit on her, but her glow comes to life in the warmer colors. My eyes go straight to her face when she’s wearing light yellow and peach, but directly to the fabric when she’s wearing blue or pink. My initial thought was that she would be an Autumn, but my eyes kept being drawn to her in the lighter, warmer colors. She can wear some of the deeper, more vibrant warm colors, but the light tones of Spring really bring out her glow. I will also send some hair color ideas to her.

Ania

Today, Glowing Color features Ania. Ania lives in Warsaw, Poland. She works as a hairdresser and linergist. She is also a psychologist. She loves animals and has a cat- “a very beautiful Cornish Rex”. Ania writes,

Hello,

I am Ania. I live in Poland. I have a big problem with right colours especially with hair colour. That’s why all the time I change it and still it is not mine….I am begging you for help. What should I do? I am 34. Half part of my life I dyed my hair with dark brown (ash) or black thought nature made a mistake and I am a winter! But now when I looked on the pictures I can see it make me like sick. White and grey skin. I’ve never like orange, yellow or brown on me. Really horrible. So if somebody said I am an autumn I’d never agree. I am so much closer to soft summer colour palette but some of them are not good for me. Now I feel really good only in soft grey blue. Please help me. Help me choose the right colour for my hair. I am dreaming of it :-).

Here is Ania’s Color Interview:

What color(s) do you wear the most? I wear the most of grey(light or medium), grey blue, white(but not fluorescent white, not too bright) and black but now I feel in black a bit older than years ago.

What color(s) do you wear the least? I feel very bad in orange, warm brown, warm beige, mahogany, aubergine, olive, bright green, bright yellow.

In what color(s) do you feel sexy and/or beautiful? I feel good in some kind of red(deep not bright, a bit dusty). Feel good in grey and grey blue and white.

In what color(s) do you receive compliments? The most compliments?: in red, pink with a drop of solomon, white.

Keep in mind that Ania’s natural hair color is a mix of dark blondes. Let’s look at Ania in cooler colors first.

Ania’s instinct is correct. She is a Summer. She gravitates to soft gray-blue, hates orange, brown, and yellow, and feels she can’t go too “cool”. Though she looks best in cooler colors, she has been going too dark with both her hair and clothes. When Ania lightens up both, she will see a dramatic difference.
